The questions clients
actually ask.
Real answers about pricing, consultations, what we handle, switching from another accountant, and what to expect when you work with Steve.
-
01 Do you offer free consultations?
Yes. The first 30 minutes are free. You can meet in person in Dover or talk by phone or video.
-
02 How much do your services cost?
It depends on the type of work and how complex the situation is. We do not publish fixed prices because every return, business, and cleanup project is different. After the free consultation, you will get a clear custom quote before any work begins.
-
03 Do you only work with businesses?
No. J&S works with both individuals and businesses. Some clients come in for personal tax preparation only. Others need year-round support with bookkeeping, payroll, business returns, sales tax, and planning.
-
04 Can you handle both my business and personal taxes?
Yes. Many small business owners prefer to have one accountant handle both sides because the business decisions and the personal return often affect each other.
-
05 What if I am behind on multiple years of returns?
That is more common than people think. The first step is figuring out which years are missing, which ones matter most right away, and what paperwork is still available. From there, we build a plan and get caught up in the right order.
-
06 Do you work with QuickBooks?
Yes. J&S works with QuickBooks and other common bookkeeping setups used by small businesses.
-
07 What is the difference between tax prep and tax planning?
Tax prep reports what already happened. Tax planning is about making decisions before the year is over, while there is still time to affect the result.
-
08 Can you help if I got an IRS or New Jersey notice?
Yes. Bring the notice to the consultation. Many letters are not full audits, but they still need to be handled correctly and on time.
-
09 When should I stop doing my own taxes?
Usually when life or business gets more complex than a basic W-2 return. Side income, rentals, K-1s, payroll, sales tax, business ownership, or multi-state issues are all signs it is time to have a professional review the situation.
-
10 What if I am switching from another accountant?
That can usually be handled smoothly. We identify what records are needed, request prior returns or files if necessary, and map out the cleanest transition.
-
11 Do you only work with Dover clients?
No. The office is in Dover, but clients come from across Morris County and nearby areas.
-
12 Do you help new businesses get set up?
Yes. J&S helps owners think through structure, registration, tax setup, and the practical side of getting started the right way.
-
13 Can you help with payroll?
Yes. Payroll setup, processing, and payroll-related filings are all part of what J&S handles for small businesses.
-
14 Do you handle sales tax?
Yes. Sales-tax registration, filing support, and the practical side of staying compliant are part of the service mix.
-
15 Can I meet in person?
Yes. If you want to sit down in the Dover office and go through things face to face, that is absolutely an option.
